Active Duty
Eligibility is generally established after a period of continuous active service. A Statement of Service signed by your command is typically used instead of a DD-214.
VA Loan Eligibility
VA home loan eligibility is based on service — not on being a first-time buyer, and not on using the benefit only once. The paperwork that proves it depends on how you served.

Who Qualifies
Eligibility is generally established after a period of continuous active service. A Statement of Service signed by your command is typically used instead of a DD-214.
Separated and retired service members usually document eligibility with the Member 4 copy of the DD-214 and the character of discharge shown on it.
Guard and Reserve members can qualify based on qualifying service. NGB-22s and points statements are commonly used to document it.
Certain surviving spouses may be eligible for the VA home loan benefit. Eligibility is established through the VA using specific forms.
Entitlement is what backs your loan. It can often be restored after a prior VA loan is paid off, and some borrowers have remaining entitlement available now.
The COE is the VA document confirming your eligibility and entitlement. In many cases we can request it for you rather than sending you to do it alone.
